Wine Tasting the electronic way

Science has invented an "electronic tongue" that can distinguish the taste of different grape varieties on our behalf.

While such devices are still in their formative stages, researchers believe they will invent wine-tasting machines more objective than human wine tasters. The e-tongue contains a series of tiny synthetic membranes and is built onto a chip made of silicon. Distinct subtleties in the chemical composition should help each person to make distinction between different grapes and vintages due to individual sensitivity. The device is capable of telling apart two samples of the same wine of different vintages as well as Chardonnay, Airen, Malvasia and Macabeu wines. The year of 2005 and 2004.. It is the hope of researchers that by allowing the electronic tongue to recognize a wider range of chemical components it will be able to distinguish altered quality of wine or instances of fraud.

The device was created using the human tongue as a guide and has sensitivities to five different taste sensations: bitter, sweet, salty, umami and acidic. tasty. Nine samples from 2005 vintage and six samples from 2004 were used by scientists to test the device. The RSCJ reported that significant testing was done on the product over a span of recent months. You can easily use the device as well as take it with you when you go to test wine samples on site. The device is comparatively cheap, fast and is simple to use.

Electronic tasters and smellers are being developed for the wine tasting industry, they will be able to detect different molecules and be more objective. This new technology will be a valuable aid in assisting certain security efforts, such as detecting explosive devices, along with helping the wine industries to make a more consistent description of their wines. Since name brand wines can command big bucks on the open market, wine counterfeiting has become extremely lucrative. Creating a fake label is easy but it is difficult to detect. The wine industry is tackling this problem by using special inks, bottles, holograms and bar codes which can protect them and the potential customers from frauds.

Tracking systems include the recently developed temperature tags and genetic vine neck seal material, as used by the Hardy wine company. The e-tongue's ability to sift grape types by location does not guarantee its ability to hardwire the more minute details of Chateau Lafite or Mouton-Rothschild. And would you really want to spend a lot on an exquisite wine to have it consumed by a robot?
