Columbia Gorge Winery Assembles World-Class Wine Tasting Tour...at Home
Hood River, Oregon (PRWEB) September 4, 2009 -- The Columbia Gorge AVA boasts an array of varietals in just 40 miles; but, Cathedral Ridge Winery is taking that boast a step further by comparing our region to the top four wine growing regions in the world. This unassuming Oregon winery located in Hood River has spent the last 5 years perfecting their relationships with local grape growers, creating exceptional wines with fourth generation winemaker, Michael Sebastiani, and assembling a team to create and share their award-winning wines. Now they're ready to share their message with the world's casual and expert wine drinkers. For just one day, September 9th, Cathedral Ridge Winery (http://cathedralridgewinery.com/store/product-info.php?_oregon-winery-sample-pack-pid92.html),will take four of their wines that match the Rhine, Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux regions for growing, quality and depth and share them at a fraction of their retail price to challenge wine drinkers to experience at home.
World-Class Four Region Sample Pack
Four Regions for $49 - a $51 Savings on Retail
Robb Bell, Cathedral Ridge Winery proprietor and founder created the offer as a way to reach out to wine lovers and expert reviewers at a time when the wine market is flooded with wine ranging from exceptional to unpalatable. "These award-winning bottles are world-class wines at a supermarket price so we can let our drinkers decide and share their experience."
• Riesling. The fine wine representing the Rhine. In the Rhine-like micro-climate, they grow both Riesling and a delightful Pinot Gris. It is their hope that drinkers will enjoy this excellent white wine representative of a semi-sweet German style Riesling.
• Syrah. Known to grow in the Rhone, this is an enticingly complex full-bodied wine. "This has been a constant winner in regional wine competitions, including a Double Gold," said Bell. Columbia Valley Syrah's are known for their rich, layered character, one reason Michael Sebastiani was thrilled to use local grape to make a really "powerful" Syrah.
• Pinot Noir. The pride of Burgundy doesn't just grow in the Willamette Valley, it also grows In the Columbia Gorge. The Huber Vineyard Pinot Noir grapes thrive in a microclimate similar to the Burgundian Pinot. This renders the Huber Pinot Noir an enticingly spicy, earthy, and cherry flavored wine in the true Burgundian character.
• Cabernet/Merlot. The best of Bordeaux. This blend of Cabernet and Merlot represents the best of the region - with boldness and character. Bordeaux varietals are traditionally blended and Sebastiani is known for his master palate and blending the wines at the right time with the perfect partners. He combined some of the best Merlot and best Cabernet Sauvignon to create this soft, great bodied wine.
When asked why he is cutting the price so low on his wines Bell responded, "In these challenging economic times, it's not easy to get away from home for tasting and touring. Once these wines arrive, it's our hope participants will invite some friends for dinner or appetizers and learn more about the wines."
Bell finds it hard to share his passion for the growing region and for the wines when people are unable to meet him in person. So he hopes to send the wines to people's doorsteps so they have an opportunity to taste and decide what they think. He slashed the prices to encourage and enable more people to be able to buy the 4 different wines.
Wine Wednesday: The 4 Region Sample Pack will happen online September 9th for 24 hours.
The ultimate goal for the offering of the World-Class Four Region Sample Pack is not just to offer wine drinkers exceptional value, but to share their experience with the wine community online.
Wine tasters who share their experience on Twitter or Facebook (@cathedralridge or www.facebook.com/oregonwine) will be entered in a drawing to win a weekend in the Gorge including lodging for 2 at a local bed and breakfast, dinner for 2 and a full barrel room tasting
tour.
They'll also be sharing feedback in the tasting room on September 9th from guests as well as from wine reviewers and bloggers.
